The Pakistan Cricket Board owns the multipurpose Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan, Punjab, Pakistan. The stadium situated in the Multan outskirts, along Vehari Road. It can accommodate 35,000 spectators in seats. August 2001 saw Pakistan take on Bangladesh in the Asian Test Championship, the stadium’s maiden test match.
Thanks to the installation of floodlights, the 35,000-seat stadium can now host day-and-night events.
History
The Ibn-e-Qasim Bagh Stadium, which Multan’s center at the time, replaced by the new stadium, which opened for business in 2001. Later, floodlights added to enable cricket matches to be played during the day. India and Pakistan, bitter rivals, played their first day/night match at this venue on February 16, 2006.
International cricket is back.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) declared in April 2018 that the venue, along with a number of other locations across the nation, would undergo renovations in order to prepare it for upcoming international matches and Pakistan Super League games.
The first Pakistan Super League match took place here on February 26, 2020, between the Multan Sultans and the Peshawar Zalmi. Three Pakistan Super League games held in this stadium in 2020. The Multan Sultans, commanded by Muhammad Rizwan, call this place home.
Multan Cricket Stadium will host a three-match ODI series against the West Indies in June 2022, the PCB announced on May 30, 2022. On June 8, 2022, Multan will host its first international match in fourteen years, an ODI against the West Indies.
Multan will be one of the locations for the December 2022 home Test series against England, the PCB said in August 2022.
Multan hosted five games in the 2023 Pakistan Super League, including the first game between Multan and Lahore.
The 2023 Asia Cup’s opening game between the host nation and Nepal took place in Multan.
The stadium hosted Asia’s largest event, the Asia Cup 2023, starting on August 30, 2023.After a long fifteen years of waiting, the first match played in Pakistan. Pakistan and Nepal played the first-ever match. The Asia Cup began with a fantastic opening ceremony, featuring melodic vocal performances by Pakistani singer Aima Baig and Nepali singer Trishala Guru.
